Living in Ses Salines

Ses Salines has been a municipality in its own right since 1925, when it separated from Santanyí. The village has a square, a church, a primary school, a pharmacy, several restaurants and a Thursday morning market. Colònia de Sant Jordi is nine minutes away, Es Trenc fourteen and Palma airport about forty, which makes it practical for people who travel often.

What homes you will find in Ses Salines

In the village there are courtyard houses, renovated homes and a few recent developments of houses and apartments. Around it, the plain is dotted with fincas with land, many with a stone house and pool. Towards the coast the land is more protected and fincas are scarcer.

What to check before deciding

In town we review street, courtyard, parking, structure and works. Fincas add access, water, energy, buildings and legality; new homes require specification, warranties, community and programme. Near Es Trenc should be tested in real use.

Who this area suits

It suits year-round and second-home buyers with services, a car and coast access. Choose between village atmosphere, rural privacy and lower-maintenance new product.

Village, countryside and the municipality’s coast

Ses Salines village and Colònia de Sant Jordi belong to the same municipality but deserve separate searches. The tourism source places Platja des Port in the Colònia, not in Ses Salines village. If a listing gives only the municipality, request its location before arranging a viewing. For a rural home, identify the access track and its real connection with the village: proximity on a map does not describe the whole experience.

Planning a week based in Ses Salines

Map out your actual week: shopping, work, leisure and regular errands. TIB route 517 connects Ses Salines with Es Llombards, Santanyí, the Colònia and Campos; check the current timetable against your needs. Test the route from the home to the stop and essential services. Do not assume proximity to the coast removes the need for a car, or that living in the village means driving everywhere.

A renovated village house or an unfinished project

In a renovated home, distinguish replaced elements from retained ones: roof, utilities, windows and layout. For a project, separate proposed images from the condition delivered and request a budget including outstanding work. Inspect the courtyard, access and internal rooms with equal care. Compare space useful to your routine, daylight and total cost of making the property ready for use, rather than simply the kitchen finish.

What changes when comparing the Colònia or Santanyí

Include Colònia de Sant Jordi for a more direct everyday connection with the sea and a comparison of apartments or coastal homes. Include Santanyí to explore another town setting and its available stock. Keep budget, parking needs and months of use constant. Visiting each settlement helps identify which activities you want nearby and which you can reach by travelling, instead of treating an entire municipality as one option.
